Lists of Upcoming Electric Cars
In the next few years, there will be around 24 upcoming electric cars launched in India. These cars include EV6, XC40 Recharge, eKUV100, Altroz EV and Kona Electric 2022. Here’s a list of 10 upcoming electric cars in India.
(1) TATA Altroz EV
Tata Altroz EV Launch: It is expected to launch in June 2022.
Approximately Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom) will be the price tag for Tata’s electric premium hatchback, Altroz EV.
The Tata Altroz EV is expected to come with Tata’s Ziptron technology coupled with a 129 PS electric motor powered by a 30.2 kWh battery. ARAI claims the Altroz’s range is 312 kilometers.
The Tata Altroz EV might also come with some additional features on top of the ones that are included in its ICE version, such as a 7-inch touchscreen, cruise control, ambient lighting, and connected car technology.

(2) Kia EV6
Kia EV6 Launch: It will be launched on June 2 in India.
Prices for the EV6 are expected to range between Rs 65 lakh and Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
In the India version of the EV6, 77.4kWh batteries are claimed to provide a range of up to 528 km based on WLTP testing. There will be both rear and all-wheel drive options available; the former will come with a single electric motor (229PS/350Nm), and the latter will come with a dual electric motor (325PS/605Nm).
It will be compatible with fast charging, which can charge the battery up to 80 percent in 18 minutes.
This electric crossover is equipped with dual 12.3-inch curved displays for the instrument panel and touchscreen infotainment, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, and an optional sunroof (but not a panoramic roof).
Safety features of the Kia EV6 include eight airbags, electronic stability control, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.
(3) Mahindra eKuv100
Mahindra could price the eKUV100 at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra eKUV100 Battery and Range: The eKUV100 commercial gets a 15.9kWh battery pack with an electric motor rated at 54.4PS and 120Nm. With a fast charger, it can be charged up to 80 percent in 55 minutes. A regular charger takes around six hours to charge the battery fully. The eKUV100 for private buyers will be equipped with the same combination.
Features of the Mahindra eKUV100 include cabin pre-cooling, location tracking, remote diagnostics, and driver pattern monitoring.
(4) Volvo XC40 Recharge
Volvo XC40 Recharge Price: The electric SUV costs Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom).
As per WLTP (World harmonized Light-duty vehicles Test Procedure), the Volvo XC40 is capable of a range of 418km. With an all-wheel drivetrain, the EV is powered by twin motors producing 408PS and 660Nm.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge has LED headlamps, a touchscreen infotainment system, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, heated and cooled front seats, and a panoramic sunroof with a 360-degree camera.
Safety features of the Volvo XC40 Recharge include ISOFIX child seat anchorages, tyre pressure monitoring, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
(5) Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai Kona Electric Launch: It is expected to arrive in India in August 2021.
The facelifted Hyundai Kona Electric SUV will be priced from Rs 23.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
204PS and 136PS respectively are the outputs of Hyundai Kona Electric Powertrains. Each battery pack weighs 64 kWh, while producing the same torque (395Nm). WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure) has revised their claimed range figures from 470km to 484km and 300km to 305km, respectively.
A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with BlueLink connected car technology is available in the facelifted Hyundai Kona Electric, while the current 8-inch display is now wirelessly compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, ambient lighting and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are included.
(6) Tesla Model 3
Tesla Model 3 Launch: It will go on sale early in 2022.
Pricing for the Tesla Model 3 is expected to start at Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).
The US-spec Tesla Model 3 comes in three electric powertrain options: Standard Plus, Long Range, and Performance. The former features a rear-wheel drivetrain and a claimed range of 423km, while the Long Range and Performance models feature dual-motor all-wheel drive and deliver a claimed range of 568km and 507km, respectively. Tesla could offer the India-spec Model 3 in the Standard Plus and Long Range variants at first and then the Performance variant later on. The Performance variant can reach a top speed of 261kmph in 3.1 seconds.
There are two wireless charging pads, a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats, a 14-speaker sound system, and autonomous driving capabilities included in the US-spec Model 3. Tesla’s India-specific model is expected to come with many features since it will be an import, so it remains to be seen what all it offers.
(7) Mahindra XUV300 Electric
Mahindra XUV300 Electric Launch: The EV could be released by November 2022.
It is likely to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
An ARAI-certified range between 350 km and 400 km is expected for the Mahindra XUV300 electric SUV under 4 meters. Although technical specifications have not been disclosed, we expect them to be on par with Tata Nexon EV, which claims a range of 312 km.
The carmaker could furnish the EV with a sunroof, dual-zone auto AC, rain-sensing wipers, and connected car technology. However, the touchscreen could be larger than the one in the standard XUV300.
The Mahindra XUV300 Electric comes with multiple airbags, cornering brake control, and ABS with electronic brake distribution (EBD).
(8) Hyundai IONIQ 5
Hyundai IONIQ 5 Price: The IONIQ 5 is expected to be priced between Rs 60 lakh and Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).
Three powertrain options are available for the Hyundai IONIQ 5: 170 PS and 217 PS motors driving the rear wheels, as well as 305 PS motors driving all four wheels. A 58kWh and 72.6kWh battery pack will provide you with 384km and 481km of driving range, respectively.
A 350kWh DC charger can recharge a Hyundai IONIQ 5 from 0 to 80 percent in less than 18 minutes. A 50kWh DC charger charges the smaller battery pack in 43.5 minutes, while a 72.6kWh battery charger takes 56.6 minutes.
Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen integrated with the driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a head-up display, and a Bose sound system.
(9) Tata Sierra EV
In the Tata Sierra EV, the Ziptron EV powertrain is likely to be further developed to offer a range of around 400km on a single charge. The production-spec model may come in both petrol and diesel variants before the EV.
It comes with LED headlamps and taillamps, black cladding along the bottom edge, and dual-tone alloy wheels.
The Tata Sierra EV concept is based on the ALFA-ARC platform and continues Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design language.
(10) Ola Electric Car
Ola Car will likely include autonomous driving technology.
Ola Car Launch: The Ola Car is expected to be available after the end of December 2023.
Prices are expected to start at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
Considering its price, the Tata Tigor EV can also be considered a competitor to the Ola. Mahindra’s eKUV100 will also be a direct competitor.
