The Genio has just been updated by Honda for the Indonesian market. With major updates to its styling elements, the neo-retro scooter is reminiscent of the Yamaha Fascino 125 FI Hybrid. Let’s see how the Indonesian neo-retro scooter measures up against our Yamaha 125cc.
As for the Design!
There’s no question that both scooters are neo-retro. On the other hand, their fascias look different. However, there are a few similarities, such as LED headlights and apron-mounted turn indicators. Yamaha’s Fascino 125 Hybrid also comes with LED DRL, which the Honda Genio does not have.
Both scooters have a similar side profile with a curved body panel, a single-piece seat,, and a sleek handle on the rear. The Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid only gets a ‘Fascino’ badge and a few highlights on the side while the Honda Genio comes with full-fledged graphics.
The tail section of both the scooters is again curvaceous, and they feature an LED taillight. The Fascino 125 Hybrid gets rear turn indicators integrated with the tail light while the Genio gets them separately.
What’s more in the Features?
The Fascino 125 Hybrid comes equipped with an idle stop/start system, a silent start, a side stand engine cutoff function, a 21-liter under-seat storage compartment, and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster that can be paired with a smartphone via the Y-connect app. It also comes with a mild-hybrid system, a first in its segment in India.
Honda’s Genio, meanwhile, comes with an idle stop/start system, an ACG motor for a quieter start, an apron-mounted USB port (right), a 14-liter under-seat storage space, and a fully digital dash with an odometer, fuel gauge, eco indicator, and illuminated Genio logo.
The Fascino 125 Hybrid is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 8.2PS and 10.3Nm of torque. It is said to offer 16% better mileage than its predecessor thanks to mild-hybrid technology. The Honda Genio, on the other hand, is powered by a 110cc FI motor that produces 9PS and 9.3Nm.
Both scooters are equipped with telescopic forks at the front and mono shocks at the rear. In the drum variant, the Fascino 125 Hybrid has drum brakes at both ends. In the disc variant, it has disc-drum brakes at both ends. On the other hand, the Honda Genio uses disc drums. Both scooters come with a combined braking system (CBS).
Regarding wheels, the Yamaha is equipped with 12-/10-inch alloys, while the Honda has 12-inch alloys on both ends. Yamaha’s alloy wheels have curved spokes, while Honda’s have a straight design.
Yamaha’s Fascino 125 Hybrid is priced between Rs 73,700 (Drum-Red) and Rs 82,530 (Disc-Matte Black SPL) (ex-showroom Delhi). On the other hand, the Honda comes in two variants, CBS and CBS-ISS. On-road in Jakarta, the former costs IDR 18,050,000 (around Rs 96,000), while the latter costs IDR 18,650,000 (around Rs 99,000).
In a conclusion
Both scooters look stylish and are equipped with modern features. It is unlikely that the Honda Genio will arrive in India anytime soon. Honda Activa 6G, Hero Maestro Edge 110, and TVS Jupiter are a few of the options you can consider if you are looking for a 110cc scooter in India. If you’re searching for a light, retro-style 125cc scooter, then the Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid makes a strong case for itself.
